After that night, Kazuya took a week off in unpaid leave for self reflection….which pretty much just meant he locked himself in his apartment and did some serious soul searching.

He should quit. He knew that. He should quit and get as far away from Akanishi Jin as possible. Cut his ties, get a new job and just forget he’d crushed on and slept with a married man.

When did he become such a slut?

Curling up on his bed, Kazuya rubbed his head and tried to think about this rationally. He did know at the time of alleged sex that Jin was married. So, bad point to Kazuya.

Next, he was drunk. In his defence, he was on the lowest rung of the business scale and when the boss says to drink, you drink no matter how hard the alcohol is. So that bad point really went to Jin actually.

After that was the actual sex. Which Kazuya couldn’t remember. He’d tried hard but honestly that night was just a blank space. Like all the nights he’d drunk too much, Kazuya just didn’t have the ability to retain memory once he got wasted and it was one of the biggest reasons he didn’t drink often. Bad points to them both really.

That left them with two bad points each. They were even. Really logic dictated that he should quit. It was the only rational thing to do.

Kazuya spent two days job hunting. He found low level entry jobs as cleaners, low level administration and even one job as a naked servant but every time Kazuya was about to call the number and ask them if they were still hiring, he thought of Jin and he just couldn’t do it.

Jin. There was something up with him. Although investigating his house had told him very little, what Kazuya now knew was that Jin seemed to thrive on being ‘perfect’ so he had another reason for staying in that house even if his marriage with Meisa had gone cold. He didn’t want to divorce her either as that would damage their image as the perfect family.

It was the biggest lie Kazuya had ever seen.

But he still couldn’t shake off the feeling that something was wrong with Jin. That glimpse into his family life had given Kazuya enough of an idea and he knew what Jin was like at work too. Jin worked hard. Some might even say he worked too hard.

On the outside he did have a seemingly perfect life. Nice house, nice car, beautiful wife, money, good was a farce. Something was up with Jin and Kazuya, try as he may, couldn’t shake the feeling that the man wasn’t actually okay. For all the walls he put up, the way he smiled, the way he kept people at arm's length, he actually wasn’t alright. At first Kazuya tried to convince himself that he was just using his feelings for Jin as an excuse, seeing something that wasn’t there but that didn’t work. He knew it was there.

By Friday, Kazuya had given up all ideas of quitting and finding another job. Clearly his mind wouldn’t let him rest until he’d found out what was wrong with Jin. He sat in his living room, curled up in a blanket and watching American soaps whilst the snow fell outside.
Monday morning, he’d be back at work. Monday morning, he’d start watching Jin and find out what’s wrong with him.

Then he’d quit.

Jin looked up from his computer when he saw Kazuya entering his office. Kazuya placed a stack of papers on his desk and he hummed “Thanks, Koneko-chan.”

He saw that flash of irritation in Kazuya’s eyes and grinned, he loved seeing it there.

“Sir,” Kazuya spoke and Jin interrupted him.

“How was your week off?” he asked “Did you do something fun? Something that’s far away from this company you don’t love as much as the rest of us do?”

Kazuya thought of how he’d spent most of the week deep in his head, lying on the living room floor and occasionally getting up to eat whatever was in the fridge. He sighed “It was restful,” he decided at last “I actually wanted to speak to you sir...about a matter not related to work.”

“Ooh,” Jin turned away from his computer and faced Kazuya “You have my ears, Koneko-chan.”

Kazuya studied Jin for a moment. The bags under his eyes, the paleness of his skin and had he lost weight? His suit looked a little loose on him. He shook his head and met Jin’s eyes “Sir, are you okay?”

“You keep asking me that,” Jin pointed out “Do I look sick to you?”

“You look tired,” Kazuya replied “Which can lead to serious health problems if you’re not careful.”

“Why thank you for your concern,” Jin drawled, he sounded sarcastic but his eyes were amused “But I’m fine.”

Kazuya bit his lip and he couldn’t really argue with that. Not in broad daylight anyway. The office was full of all the brokers beyond Jin’s office window. He nodded and looked down for a moment before meeting Jin’s eyes again.

“Just...if you wanted someone to talk to,” he half-offered.

Jin smirked “Are you inviting me back in your bed?”

“No,” Kazuya blurted right away. He watched Jin’s eyes turn more amused and he felt kind of like a fool, offering help to someone who clearly didn’t take his concern seriously. But then he’d come to accept that helping Jin in any shape or form was not going to come easily.

He took a breath “I only mean that if you want someone to talk to...a place to crash...not my bed,” he added as an afterthought “...I’m here.”

Jin watched him and Kazuya smiled “I’ll listen to you.”

He made his way to the door and before he left, Jin spoke “What makes you think I need help?”

Kazuya paused, his hand resting on the doorknob. He turned back to Jin and met his eyes “Because I’m one of the few people who know your life isn’t perfect.”

With a small bow, Kazuya let himself out and closed the door with a quiet click behind himself.

Jin didn’t take Kazuya’s help right away. Kazuya knew he wouldn’t. He was far too proud for that.

In the weeks that followed, life went back to semi-normal as Jin ran the company, brokers kept their eyes on the stock market and Kazuya ran around doing menial administrative tasks for all of them.

From his point at the reception desk, Kazuya could see Jin through his office window and every day he got skinnier and skinnier. The bags under his eyes were getting worse and so was his skin. Every day Jin would carry on as normal. He’d conduct meetings with the staff, he’d go out for networking meetings with other companies, sponsors and higher ups. He’d work very late into the night, sometimes so late that he ended up falling asleep on his desk.

Kazuya watched. He worked as late as he could to keep in time with Jin. He’d arrange Jin’s meetings, book the venues and do everything his job required whilst also keeping a close eye on Jin.

Four weeks this went on until finally one late night, Kazuya was at his desk playing solitaire when Jin came out of his office. They were the only people in the office, everyone else (everyone sane) had gone home already. Only Kazuya and Jin were stupid enough to stay in the building this late.

Jin came up to the desk and Kazuya looked up as he leaned against it.

“Koneko-chan,” he hummed “It’s nearly midnight. What are you still doing here?”

“Could ask you the same, sir,” Kazuya clicked out of his game and turned in his seat to look at him.

“I’m the boss, I’m allowed to be here late,” Jin hummed “In fact it’s my job to make sure accounts are settled and it’s on my head if they aren’t ready by a certain deadline. You on the other hand, can clock out at 5.”

“I felt it was wrong to leave before the boss,” Kazuya lied.

“Nobody else seems to have a problem with leaving before me,” Jin shrugged, gesturing to the empty desks in the broker area. He turned back to Kazuya “Is this about you being concerned for me?”

Kazuya thought he could bring up his points again about the damaging health effects of lack of sleep but instead he looked at Jin and blinked “How is your wife, sir? You’re never home at a normal hour.”

Jin rose an unimpressed eyebrow “You’re getting feisty, Koneko-chan. Should I start calling you Tora-chan instead?”

“I’m worried about you, sir,” Kazuya answered, this time honestly “Is that a crime?”

Jin sighed and shook his head “You’re really stubborn.”

Kazuya said nothing and Jin shrugged “Okay. If I talk, will you start going home at a normal time? I’m not paying you for overtime.”

“Don’t want you to talk, I want you to sleep,” Kazuya replied with a small frown “Those bags under your eyes, the colour of your’ve even lost weight. I know what that is, my father had it too and it drove him into an early grave. You’re going to work your perfect life into your grave.”

Jin smirked “So what do you want from me? Since you clearly know what’s wrong, surely you must know that I can’t sleep.”

“Yes,” Kazuya admitted “I know you can’t sleep. That’s why you avoid home.”

“Why would I want to try sleeping in my cold bed?” Jin shrugged “My wife and I have given up trying to make it warm. It never works.”

“So you’re okay with this?” Kazuya leaned in “Living your life that only seems perfect on the outside. On the inside, you don’t come home, you stay out here and work until your body can’t take it anymore and you collapse on your desk.”

“I sleep better on my desk than I do at home,” Jin hummed.

“And you have a high paying job, good car, good house but the expense of all of that is that your job is stressful, you have to kiss ass all the time-”

“Everyone has to kiss ass at some point,” Jin pointed out “You probably can’t remember but you kissed my ass quite happily that night.”

Kazuya tried to ignore his cheeks burning with embarrassment and he continued “That’s not happiness.”

A slow smile spread across Jin’s face “You...want me to be happy?”

Kazuya faltered a little. He knew he probably shouldn’t care about Jin this much but the bare truth was that he actually did. He cared about Jin a great deal. More than he was willing to admit.
“Yes,’ he admitted quietly “I’d like to see you happy.”

Jin seemed to think about it for a moment before he finally pushed himself off the reception desk and came around it to Kazuya’s side. He sauntered up to where Kazuya was sitting in his chair and knelt down in front of him.

“Then,’ he purred in a low voice “Let me back in your bed.”

His hands, placed on Kazuya’s knees, started opening them and Kazuya slapped the hands off.

“No,” he snapped “You’re married and I have limits.”

Jin rolled his eyes and sighed “Then at least let me sleep in the same bed as you. I promise to keep my hands to myself.”

“You can sleep on the couch,” Kazuya offered and Jin met his eyes.

“Thought you wanted me to be happy?”

His eyes went wide and Kazuya suddenly realised that Jin was throwing him the most adorable puppy look he’d ever seen. He didn’t even know grown men were capable of looking this cute.

Kazuya pulled his blankets back and looked at Jin on the other side of the bed. He pointed “You stay on your side and if you touch me, I’m making you sleep on the couch.”

“Sure, sure, Koneko-chan,” Jin hummed as he folded his pants and set them aside with the rest of his clothes. He was wearing one of Kazuya’s shirts but admittedly it was a little small for him. The material stretched at his chest and stomach, making the panda design on the chest look wider than usual.

Kazuya climbed into bed and so did Jin. He turned off the lights and lay down with a tired sigh.

For a few moments there was just the sound of their breathing and distant traffic from the streets down below. Kazuya heard Jin move onto his side.

“Koneko-chan,” he spoke “What kind of fabric softener do you use? It smells really nice.”

Kazuya sighed “I just buy it from the supermarket,” he indulged Jin “Usually when it’s on special.”

“How frugal of you,” Jin teased. Kazuya could hear his fingers feeling the sheets “It’s really soft.”

Kazuya sighed again “Go to sleep, Jin.”

“I can’t,” Jin admitted and shivered “I’m a little cold.”

“You’ll heat up,” Kazuya assured him “Do you want me to get you an extra blanket?”

“That won’t help,” Jin whined and his freezing cold foot brushed against Kazuya’s leg, making the younger shriek.

“What the hell is wrong with your feet?!” Kazuya hissed, pulling his own legs up as if Jin was some ice creature “Did you stick them in the freezer before you came to bed?!”

“I’ve always been cold on my own,” Jin admitted “My body heat doesn’t work alone, I need another human.”

Kazuya groaned and rubbed his leg, trying to get the warmth back into it “Can’t I just give you a hot water bottle or something?”

“I can’t sleep,” Jin whined “Besides, hot water bottles get cold eventually.”

Groaning to himself, Kazuya reluctantly moved closer to Jin. He felt the other’s arms come around him and turned his head to look at him “But this is only for warmth purposes! Touch me and you can sleep on the couch and I don’t care how cold you get.”

“Aye, aye, Koneko-chan,” Jin purred.

He wrapped his arms around Kazuya and out of instinct, Kazuya turned onto his side. His back in Jin’s chest as the other tangled himself around Kazuya’s small body. Kazuya felt Jin’s ice cold feet press the back of his warm legs and jumped but didn’t pull away as Jin eventually settled them in a warm embrace. Jin’s arms were holding him close. Kazuya could feel Jin’s firm chest against his back, their legs entwined as his sought warmth from the younger.

Jin’s nose settled in the back of his neck and when he breathed, Kazuya shivered. It sent air right down his spine.

“You’re warm…” Jin purred and at last he sounded a little more tired than before.

Kazuya sighed “Go to sleep, Jin.”

“Mmm…” Jin hummed, his voice dropping off and breathing getting heavier as sleep finally took him away.

Kazuya lay there, wrapped in Jin’s arms and tried not to think about how nice this felt. He was just trying to help Jin sleep and by the looks of it, it was working. The other was heavy and he was warm and even his feet started heating up from the contact. Kazuya took a deep breath and tried to ignore Jin’s hand resting on his stomach, fingers pressing lightly against the material of his shirt, the warmth seeping through and onto Kazuya’s sensitive skin.

He closed his eyes tight and denied it to himself over and over. No. This didn’t feel nice. He was just doing his boss a favour. Whatever sexual relationship they had, however brief, it was over now and that was that.

After about an hour of denying that this felt nice in any way, shape or form, Kazuya gave up and so did his mind. He fell asleep in Jin’s arms, listening to the other breathing against the back of his neck.

The next morning, Kazuya woke up drenched in sweat. The sun was pouring through the window and although it was winter and the cold should have settled in, the combination of the morning sun and Jin’s body caused Kazuya to scramble out from underneath him.

“Good God Jin,” Kazuya panted, pulling at the sheets until he could crawl out from under Jin’s heavy body “You’re like a furnace!”

Jin moaned, his face pressed into the pillow where he’d half drooled on it. He spread out a little “The sheets are wet…” he complained and Kazuya fanned himself.

Kazuya grabbed a towel, closed the curtains and sighed as he made his way to the bathroom to shower. When he came out again, Jin had kicked the blankets off and was lying like a starfish in the middle of the bed. He looked at Kazuya when he came out and sighed “That was a good sleep.”

“Glad you were comfortable,” Kazuya grumbled and chucked his pajamas in the wash basket. His sheets were going to have to be changed too.

Jin pushed himself into a sitting position and watched Kazuya as though the boy were a puzzle “Are you always this grumpy in the morning?”

Kazuya stared at Jin “You COOKED me overnight!” he exclaimed “Did you have to snuggle that close?!”

“I like snuggling,” Jin shrugged “And you’re perfect, I mean you fit right in my body like a long lost puzzle piece.”

Kazuya grumbled and grabbed a towel. He chucked it at Jin’s face “Your clothes should be ready and dry in the dryer. Grab those before you hop in the shower.”

Jin laughed and put the towel down “Koneko-chan,” he teased “You’re quite feisty in the morning.”

“Go shower, you stinky stock broker!” Kazuya pointed to the bathroom and Jin laughed as he got up and obeyed.

When he was gone and the bathroom door had closed behind him, Kazuya heard the water running and went to change the sheets. As he did so, he could hear Jin singing. He sighed, he wasn’t actually mad at the other. The snuggling had felt nice until their body heat became too much for him. On some level too, he was immensely glad that Jin had actually managed to sleep. Already he could see the other getting better, feeling a little better.

Now if only he could do that in his own bed because Kazuya doubted he’d be able to survive having a married man in his bed all the time.

Jin came out as he was laying out new sheets on his bed. The man sighed happily “You know, I feel refreshed. That’s the first solid sleep I’ve had for a long time.”

“You’re welcome,” Kazuya mumbled, straightening out the sheets as he pulled the blanket over the bed and straightened it out before flopping the pillows back on top. He turned to Jin “Now all you have to do is figure out how to get that sleep at home.”

Jin looked a little reluctant, he sighed “It’s not possible.”

He just wasn’t happy at home. He couldn’t sleep at home. His wife, his career, his perfect had taken a lot of energy to create it and it took even more to maintain it.

Kazuya folded his arms “Well...what else are you going to do? Sleep here every night?”

“Wouldn’t mind that,” Jin admitted quietly “I’re cute and warm to snuggle up to and it can’t have been that terrible for you, otherwise you wouldn’t have let me anywhere near you in the first place. Let alone your bed.”

Unfortunately he had a point.

“Besides,” Jin stepped closer to Kazuya and looked at him “If it really bothers you, you know what you should do. Leave me to it. Instead you stay at work late every single night just to look after me.”

That’s because I care, idiot. Kazuya gritted his teeth. This wouldn’t be so bad if he only cared about Jin as one human being cares for the welfare of another but this went a little beyond that for him and it always had. Kazuya had feelings for Jin, it started as a crush and it was budding into something else even though he was trying with all his might to stop it. He thought about Jin’s limbs tangled into his own and felt a slight flutter in his chest. That had been nice. It was helping Jin sleep too.

He sighed “Just for now,” he folded his arms and watched Jin “But you’ve got to sort things out with your wife and I’m off limits. You’re married. This is just for you to sleep.”

“I’ll be a saint,” Jin promised and when he smiled, Kazuya felt his stomach drop right away.

He had a feeling this was going to hurt him a lot more than it would ever hurt Jin.

They started off slowly and even cautiously. Although at work their professional relationship remained the same, they’d work through the day until everyone was gone and then Jin would come home with Kazuya. Every now and then, he’d go back to his own house but he wouldn’t be there longer than one night before he came back to Kazuya.

Kazuya never asked what he did at home. He liked to believe Jin was trying to reconnect with his wife but he knew better. There was something incredibly cold about that house and he’d have thought Jin was pulling his leg and sleeping just fine but he knew better than that.

Jin slept in his bed almost every night for the first few weeks. They slowly got into the pattern of occasionally having dinner together and even breakfast before going to work separately. Sometimes Jin hung around Kazuya’s house because he didn’t have to work as early as Kazuya did, other times Jin didn’t leave work with Kazuya because he had meetings but he’d always come back to Kazuya’s place afterwards.

They didn’t do anything intimate even though it was starting to feel like they were just friends who happened to share a bed. Sometimes Jin wrapped his arms and legs around Kazuya, cooking him overnight. Other nights Jin was merely content with Kazuya being right next to him. But every night he was at Kazuya’s place, he slept well.

It was starting to show in his skin as well. His colour was coming back to his cheeks, the bags under his eyes were starting to disappear and he was even gaining weight. Good weight. The kind that didn’t make his Armani suit look too big for him.

Nobody at work knew any better. Not even Yamapi who occasionally invited Kazuya out to lunch because the office drove him crazy and no sane person would try eating a turkey sandwich whilst their co-workers were screaming about falling market prices.

Once, at Jin’s suggestion, they even went on a date. They went out to the movies. Jin had suggested going to an extremely expensive restaurant but Kazuya had insisted that they were going to do normal people things. Normal people things did not include restaurants that costed more than his yearly rent.

Kazuya found out very fast that Jin, the money connoisseur that he was, hated the popcorn on the mere basis that it was heinously overpriced.

“I can’t believe I’m hearing this from someone who wanted to order a shrimp dish that costs the same as a car,” Kazuya laughed as he handed Jin the popcorn he’d bought.

“Do you know how much fatty butter is in this?” Jin asked “I mean normally I wouldn’t mind but they’re overcharging me to get fat. At least in a conbini they sell cheap fatty butter.”

“Eat your popcorn,” Kazuya chided him and went on to order drinks. Which were also overpriced.

They went into the theatre and not long after they sat down and put their food aside. The previews started showing and when they showed a particularly sappy upcoming movie, Kazuya cringed and Jin noticed.

He leaned over “Romantic movies don’t do it for you?”

“I can’t stand cheesiness,” Kazuya admitted with another cringe when the lead female in the trailer said: “I found my heart when I found you!”

Jin laughed and stored that little detail of information in his brain for later use.

When the trailers were over and the movie finally started, Jin had already dug into the popcorn despite his earlier protests. They’d chosen a scary movie to start with because Kazuya didn’t really believe the reviews when they said it was the most terrifying movie of the year.

Halfway through, Jin had already shrieked twice, dropped the popcorn and was hiding in Kazuya’s shoulder as Kazuya watched the main character wander around the house in the dark. He shook his head and nudged Jin “Oy, it’s over now.”

Jin looked up just in time to see the character get attacked and he screamed again.

It was just as well there weren’t that many people in the theatre because nobody was close enough to realise that the girly sounding scream had come from a fully grown man.

Afterwards they went out for dinner. Kazuya showed Jin the true meaning of living on a budget which meant restaurants were generally out of his reach money-wise. So they ended up buying bento boxes in a conbini and eating outside in the park.

“This is insane,” Jin laughed as he looked at his bento box sitting on his lap “If you’d just let me pay for it, we’d be in a restaurant.”

“Think of this as a night-time picnic,” Kazuya grinned “Besides it’s not that bad. We have a nice green area, the sound of the cars nearby, the moon is high and the stars are out. At least it’s not raining.”

The distant sound of thunder clouds made them look up and Jin turned his unimpressed eyes to Kazuya “You realise that was your fault right?”

“They sound far away,” Kazuya shrugged just as a large blob of water landed on his shoulder.

Jin looked up “Koneko-chan…”

“Eat your bento,” Kazuya chided, getting out his own chopsticks.

Jin watched as the sky overhead opened up, the clouds opening for the rain that fell as suddenly as it had announced its presence. Jin was about to run when he noticed the younger still calmly eating his bento, as if he hadn’t noticed the torrent of rain that was engulfing them both. Jin realised it then that his receptionist was crazy.

“Koneko-chan!” Jin kicked him “It’s raining!”

Instead Kazuya pointed at the egg in Jin’s bento with his chopsticks “Are you going to eat that?”

“What the hell?! Get out of the rain!” Jin spluttered, he was getting drenched and he wanted to get up and run to the car but he didn’t want to leave this lunatic here on his own.

But Kazuya didn’t move and after a moment, Jin huffed and gave up. He sat down next to him and picked up his bento “Fine! We’ll both catch pneumonia and die!” he huffed dramatically.

He started stuffing food in his mouth and he was halfway through when he noticed Kazuya’s shoulders shaking in the rain. At first he thought the other was freezing but he quickly noticed the laughter coming from the other and frowned “The hell?”

Kazuya laughed, his hair plastered to his face, his clothes drenched and the rainwater was even filling his half empty bento box, he turned to Jin and laughed at him “You’re right, this rain was totally my fault.”

Jin stared at him. Unable to believe what he was seeing for a few moments before the ridiculousness and hilarity of the moment caught up with him and within minutes, he was laughing too “Yeah,” he nudged Kazuya’s side “It really is!”

Kazuya got up and Jin hurried to follow. They stumbled because the rain had made the grass muddy but both were still laughing like complete lunatics as they disposed of their bento boxes and raced each other back to the car.

When they got back to Kazuya’s place, they both fought for the bath until Jin won with his puppy dog eyes. After they’d both bathed and warmed their insides with hot chocolate, Jin had slept so easily, wrapped again in Kazuya’s arms. It was the weirdest yet best date he’d ever been on.

Eventually, one night, Kazuya was lounging on the couch watching some random variety show when he turned his eyes to Jin, who was leaned over the coffee table trying to work out some figures on a report that didn’t match.

“Jin,” Kazuya spoke “How are you feeling now?”

“Fine,” Jin ticked something off in the report and looked up “Why do you ask?”

“’s just,” Kazuya pulled himself into a sitting position and sighed “It’s been awhile now and you almost live never go home again. I was just long can we go on like this?”

Jin shrugged “I don’t know. It’s comfortable right it comfortable to you?”

Kazuya didn’t want to admit he was getting really used to having Jin in his bed and it would feel weird if he wasn’t in it. But that was besides the point.

“Isn’t this weird?” he asked “You’re a married man but you never go home. You work all day and you sleep here with a receptionist.”

“You should know by now that you’re way more than that, Koneko-chan,” Jin hummed. He studied Kazuya “Are you trying to tell me to get out?”

“No,” Kazuya frowned and struggled to express how he felt about this “It’s”

Jin rose an eyebrow and Kazuya looked at him “That night when I was drunk and told you I only accepted this job because I was into you. It still stands. If I didn’t care about you so much, I wouldn’t let you in my bed.”

“Having me in your bed is confusing you?” Jin guessed correctly.

“Yes...a little…” Kazuya admitted helplessly. He thought about Jin wrapped around him, the way his heart beat so fast and hard in the night and he was the only one who could hear it. He thought about the way Jin’s smile made his stomach flip and how having Jin around was both comforting and harmful to him. Because he was so close and yet Kazuya couldn’t bring himself to touch something he knew wasn’t his.

He looked at Jin “You said you and your wife have an open sort of relationship.”

“Try cold,” Jin hummed “As in, I don’t care who she sleeps with and she doesn’t care who I sleep with.”

“How many people do you sleep with?” Kazuya asked. He had to know. Was he the only one recently? Did Jin go out and get his kicks with other people because he couldn’t get them with his wife or Kazuya? A pang of jealousy came to Kazuya at the very thought but he had to protect himself here. He was the one with the feelings and he’d feel used if Jin was just using his bed and going around sleeping with other people.

Jin took a deep breath “Before you, anyone,” he admitted quietly “Before that night I had with you, I’d sleep with anyone who was interested. Someone to keep me warm for the night.”

Kazuya blinked “But after me?”

“After you, no one,” Jin clarified “I haven’t wanted to either. I know you think I must be an asshole because I’m just crashing on your bed but you’re the one who said you won’t do anything with me while I’m married.”

“I stand by that,” Kazuya replied “No matter how cold your relationship is with your wife, you’re still married.”

“I told you before,” Jin spoke “My wife, my house, my car, my job...they all represent a perfect life I lead. It’s an image I keep for my reputation.”

“It’s cold, shallow and empty,” Kazuya pointed out “Can you honestly stand in front of me and tell me that you’re just fine living the rest of your life in a loveless marriage with all the money any man could want and no happiness? No one to make you happy and warm?”

Jin watched him and Kazuya continued “I’m not going to be here for you forever. You might be content with this life but I’m not. While I care about you, I want...I want…” he faltered helplessly and decided to bare his heart. There was no point in hiding it in silence.

“I want a life,” he admitted quietly “I don’t care about the money or the status, I want a nice house, a job where I don’t wake up every morning wanting to stay in bed and call sick. I want someone in my life who cares about me and doesn’t have another life he’s keeping just for show.”

Jin stared at Kazuya in surprise and Kazuya gathered the last of his courage “Jin, what do you feel towards me?” he asked “Because if you care about me at all, you’ll think about what your presence here is doing to me every night.”

Jin took a deep breath and closed his report books. He put his pen down and looked at Kazuya properly.
“I think I remember the first day I interviewed you,” he confessed calmly “You looked absolutely nothing like all the other candidates and that’s why I liked you. Everyone else was so neat with their suits and their ties pulled right up to their throats but you came in wearing a white button up shirt and a knitted maroon cardigan. It looked...weird.”

Kazuya stared at him and Jin smiled “I hired you because you didn’t belong in my world and I was right. You were nothing like the brokers. You didn’t give a shit about money and seeing that...seeing how different you were every day in the office, it actually made me happy. Finally someone normal was in the office.”

Kazuya had to avert his eyes. He looked down at his lap and bit his lip.

“I didn’t expect you to confess to me that night,” Jin admitted quietly “I actually left you alone to go to the bathroom to control myself because I was drunk too but then you followed me and things out of control. Before I knew it, I couldn’t stop myself. You were way more than different, you were really different. You belong to a world I don’t.”

Kazuya sighed. He belonged in a world Jin could very easily enter...if he’d only give up his lie of a life.

“Jin cut me loose before this turns into something more for me,” he pleaded “I worried for you and I still do. I’m glad you’re getting sleep but it’s coming at a cost. Sleeping in the same bed with you every’s getting to me.”

Jin got up, he approached the couch and knelt down in front of Kazuya. He took his hand and Kazuya let him. He cupped Kazuya’s cheek and Kazuya let him. He kissed Kazuya and Kazuya let him...for two seconds before he pulled back again.

“Don’t,” he breathed, avoiding Jin’s eyesight completely.

“You want me to leave her,” Jin surmised “Divorce her.”

“I want you to do what you want to do,” Kazuya confessed “If you want to fix your marriage and your life, then leave me. If you want me, then leave her but I won’t be your little secret.”

“You’re not my secret,” Jin cupped his face again, making him look at him “It’s just…”

Jin struggled. There were a lot of problems with this. The biggest being that without his reputation, without his job, he was standing on nothing. He’d worked so hard to build his life from practically nothing. He knew what it was like being poor, he’d worked his ass off so he’d never have to know what it was like to eat off handouts ever again. He’d studied money, studied the market, forced his brain to understand it and he’d taken over. He’d taken care of himself, worked out, ate all the right foods, denied himself treats and managed to attract the attention of a model. He’d established his own business, married what was probably the most beautiful woman he’d ever meet in this line of work, and he’d successfully established himself as a force to be reckoned with.

All that hard work. Kazuya had no idea what he was asking for when he told Jin to just let it all go.

Jin took a deep breath and forced himself to look at Kazuya. The receptionist who’d so easily switched his life upside down and had been unknowingly doing so ever since Jin hired him. Even before that fateful night at the party, Jin had always known he was there. Sure, maybe he hadn’t remembered his name but Jin never remembered anyone’s name unless forced.

“I can’t give it up,” Jin admitted quietly, knowing damn well he was making a choice now. As much as he didn’t want to walk away from Kazuya and leave him, he was also well aware that continuing with this was going to kill Kazuya. It would kill them both.

Kazuya’s eyes changed and Jin hated seeing it. The younger had been so patient, taking care of Jin, making sure he’d gotten back to this point where he could sleep, where he could function. But the cost was high and Jin wasn’t sure he could pay it anymore.

“I’ll stop coming around,” Jin promised “I’ll return to my life. It’s for the best.”

Kazuya nodded. He didn’t look like he agreed but he nodded. Jin moved to get up but before he could leave, Kazuya took his hand.

“Stay tonight,” he breathed and met Jin’s eyes “Just tonight.”

Jin nodded. He felt like this place, more than any other place in the world, was as warm as home should be.

That night, they curled up on the bed like they normally did but there was something different about it. The knowledge that Jin wouldn’t come back. That they couldn’t continue whatever this was turning out to be. Kazuya curled into Jin’s arms as he normally did, letting Jin borrow his body heat but tonight was different. Instead of just going to sleep, to Jin’s surprise, he felt Kazuya’s lips on his chin.

Jin blinked at him, his arms comfortably wrapped around the other. In the darkness of the room, he could see Kazuya’s eyes as the younger kissed his jaw next and Jin’s heartbeat sped up, thumping almost painfully in his chest. Kazuya’s next kiss was against his cheek and Jin’s eyes fluttered shut, his fingers clenching just a little at the small of Kazuya’s back.

Finally Kazuya’s lips landed on Jin’s and Jin responded immediately. He felt Kazuya’s hands sliding up to his shoulders and although he felt the very familiar need to devour Kazuya’s mouth and take over, something stopped him from doing so. The lingering knowledge, stored at the very back of his head, that this was the end. This was only happening because it was the end and they both knew it.

Jin didn’t roll on top of Kazuya until he felt the younger pulling him on top. Kissing him hard, Kazuya’s hands pulled at Jin’s clothes until the other gave up and undressed them both. Jin’s feverish kisses traced down Kazuya’s neck and the younger could only surrender his neck and body to Jin’s lips and hands. It felt like everything Kazuya had secretly been imagining it was. Jin’s hands were hot to the touch and searing traces all over Kazuya’s body. His lips left marks and Kazuya couldn’t get enough either.

They both had a lot on their minds. They both had things to think about but now, as their hands explored each other, all they could think was that they should have done this more. How they wished they could have. Jin wasted no time in cupping Kazuya’s length through his pants, revelling in the strangled, choked moan the other let out underneath him. Jin’s mouth landed kisses on Kazuya’s chest and when he ridded the other of his pants and wrapped his hand around his length, Kazuya’s back arched off the bed and Jin’s mind blurred and fuzzed with the ever present state of need.

Kazuya too, was feeling along Jin’s bare body and what his mind didn’t remember from the drunken night before, his body sure as hell did. Jin found his lips again and the preparation that came afterwards was quick. Brief and even frantic before Jin pushed into the younger at last and heard Kazuya’s voice moan in his ear.

Underneath him, Kazuya was holding onto Jin tightly. His eyes squeezed shut and he clenched his legs around the other. This was the end. It had to be. The only reason why he was doing this tonight was because he would never be able to afterwards.

He was already a homewrecker anyway, might as well go the whole way before he forced himself off.

Jin moved and Kazuya’s hand tangled in Jin’s hair. He moved with him and heard Jin’s panting in his ear, felt Jin’s heated body above his own and wondered how he was ever going to go to sleep without the feel of Jin’s cold and hot body somewhere in the same bed. How was he going to cope with mornings without Jin’s whining because Jin wasn’t a morning person. How would he carry on without the sight of Jin’s mess in his apartment?

This had gone way further than the crush it had started out as. Having Jin in his life, caring for him, worrying for him, going out of his way and rearranging his entire life to have Jin in it had evolved the crush into something deeper and Kazuya knew it. Had known it for awhile.

But Jin thrusting into him was erasing his mind of all of it until all Kazuya could do was hold on, force his body to remember what Jin felt like in his arms because he was never going to feel it again.

“Jin,” he panted, his body thrusting back against the other and he moaned. The zings of pleasure shot all through him and he knew he wouldn’t last long.

Jin found his lips again and Kazuya moaned. He felt his stomach clench and grasped Jin tightly. He wished...he really wished…

Coming with a helpless scream, Kazuya held Jin tightly and vaguely felt the other finish too. Jin collapsed into his body, panting and as sweaty as Kazuya. Kazuya felt the edges of sleep taking him away but just before it did, he felt Jin’s arms around him tighten and Jin’s voice in his ear “I wish…”

Kazuya quit the day after. He’d woken up to an empty apartment. Jin had taken everything that belonged to him and he hadn’t come back afterwards either. It took Kazuya a week of moping, of picking himself up and forcing himself to believe that Jin would be just fine in his fake life. He wasn’t Kazuya’s concern anymore. Kazuya had broken his own heart in a bid to fix Jin and to give him credit, he had fixed Jin. Jin was healthy, the bags under his eyes had gone, he’d gained weight, Jin had gotten better.

How long that would last was anyone’s guess but again, it wasn’t Kazuya’s concern anymore.

Jin had made his choice. He’d chosen to continue with his fake life, with late nights and a marriage so cold he couldn’t even stand to be in the same house night after night. Jin had chosen a life of money, reputation and cars over Kazuya and that was fine. Kazuya would have never forced him to choose the alternative. It obviously mattered more to Jin that he look good in this world and Kazuya would probably never understand it.

So long as he was happy...not that it was Kazuya’s concern.

It took Kazuya a week to get over himself. To cellotape his heart back together and force himself to continue. He got another job at a weight loss clinic after finding out they paid decently and were desperately looking for someone with his kind of administration skills.

The staff was 90% female with the exception of him and Kenji, who ironically enough was 95kg’s and insisted that the healthy all-natural diet pills they sold really worked. Kazuya found the atmosphere different too. Instead of money surrounding him, these people were all about healthy eating, exercising and sleeping regularly...which Kazuya could painfully relate to.

Months passed and one not-so-special Monday, the news came out that Akanishi Jin and Kuroki Meisa had divorced.
Kazuya was startled when he saw it on the news. He’d been checking the emails and scanning the daily news online when it came up on the front page. He clicked on the link and was presented with a video, the news further stating that Akanishi Jin’s surprise announcement also came with the announcement that he was giving up his own company.

Kazuya looked around the office. It was eight in the morning and the only person here was Kenji, who was doing sit-ups in his office with a lollipop in his mouth. Kazuya clicked on the video and watched as Jin stood in front of the cameras. He looked skinny again, the bags under his eyes had returned tenfold and Kazuya tried to ignore the persistent tug his heart felt in reaction.

Jin cleared his throat and faced the audience calmly “I’m here to announce the matter of my divorce and my company,” he announced “It’s true. After a month of discussing the matter at length, my former wife and I decided it was best that we part ways. Our marriage had grown cold a long time ago and we realised nothing was keeping us together anymore.”

The press were dying to ask questions but Jin continued “Furthermore is the matter of my company. Which I have now decided to leave. The reasons are simple but complicated in fact that I had to...wait a minute…”

Kazuya blinked in confusion, watching the screen as Jin fumbled around his too-big suit and finally brought out a crumpled white piece of paper. Jin smoothed it out on the podium and cleared his throat “To, animal-fruit-chan,” he announced. Kazuya’s eyes widened and he froze. Was Jin talking to him?

“You noticed I was sick long before I did,” Jin read from his paper “Like a silent virus, you entered my life and at first, you annoyed me. I’ll admit it. You didn’t belong in my world, I didn’t want to belong in yours changed me. You stayed late at work and wouldn’t leave until I did. Do you know how worried I was for you? You’d stay at my work at 12, making ME feel guilty because it was my fault you wouldn’t just leave like everyone else. You wanted to help me, to heal me and yeah, I don’t really remember our first time together but I remember every detail afterwards.

Yes, my feet are always cold. I can never muster up enough body heat without someone else and yes, I probably did cook you overnight. But you were so different, you didn’t care about my world and you belonged in a world I didn’t want to return to. A world of budgets, of worrying about whether or not you’re going to make the rent for the month. A world where you actually do have to pay attention to the price before you buy something. was fun. It was fun getting soaked under the rain with you, eating bento whilst getting soaked head to toe, eating fatty, overpriced popcorn, hearing you scream when my cold toes touched your legs. Before I knew it, you were curing me. You made me sleep, made me eat, made me care about things other than the world I knew.”

The press was somewhat confused now but Jin continued “I didn’t get anyone to check my speech. As you well know, I’m no master of words when it comes to this shit so I’m sorry. But believe me when I say I want to belong to your world now. I miss you and I know I screwed up my chance with you, let you leave, chose money over you but I miss you and I don’t ever want to feel you leave my arms again. I want to live with you, in a budget one bedroom apartment, in a shed, hell under the stars if we have to. I want to worry about the monthly rent with you, I want a life where asskissing is only what happens under the sheets and not to corporate bosses staring at my wife’s boobs. Most of all, I want to hear you sleeping next to me. In the full knowledge that tomorrow will be another beautiful day, so long as you’re there.”

Jin folded his letter up again and turned back to the press “I will be stepping down from my position. The person filling my position will be Yamashita Tomohisa. I assure you, he is more than capable for the job. Thank you for listening.”

The video stopped there and Kazuya didn’t even realise he was already smiling. He closed the window and jumped when a voice behind him made him turn around to look at the entrance of the clinic.

“So, weight loss eh?” Jin asked, looking around as he walked up to Kazuya’s desk at reception, he leaned on the desk and looked at the younger “I think I need to make an appointment.”

“The hell you do!” Kazuya spluttered “You lose anymore weight, there won’t be anything left!”

He couldn’t help himself, he got up and ran around the desk, rushing into Jin’s arms and hugging him tight. Jin had lost so much weight, he was too easy to hold and Kazuya knew he’d just returned to that cold life. He hadn’t been sleeping, he hadn’t been eating, all up until now.

“I missed you,” Jin breathed into his shoulder “I’m sorry.”

Kazuya shook his head, he kissed Jin’s neck and hugged him tight “I saw your press conference.”

“Oh yeah?” Jin pulled back, he looked a little embarrassed and rubbed the back of his neck “What did you think?”

“I’m amazed you managed to get as far as you did without anyone writing your speeches for you,” Kazuya admitted “Damn you suck.”

Jin laughed and Kazuya took his hand “But it was the best speech I’ve ever heard from you.”

Jin smiled and pulled Kazuya close “I’m sorry I took so long,” he confessed “But I missed you. If you haven’t gotten over me yet, if you’ll have me, will you let me come back to you? I miss your bed, I miss your shower...I miss you.”

Kazuya couldn’t help it. He kissed Jin sweetly and felt the other exhale with relief. Almost sagging against him as he wrapped his arms around him.
“So long as you always remember what matters more,” Kazuya breathed.

“I know,” Jin sighed “Money matters less than you and sleep.”

“No,” Kazuya snorted “You remembering my damn name matters more!”

Jin’s smile, though tired, was brighter than the sun “Sure Koneko-chan, anything you say.”

Z/N: Hey guys, Zara here :)

Whilst Rika is off having fun on her big trip, I've been...well to put it lightly, I've been hitting my head with a keyboard and textbooks. With exams coming up, I've had much less time for writing and much more time trying to figure out how to write a literature review - which trust me is not only boring but also unexpectedly difficult because people keep telling me it's like an essay only it's nothing like an essay...which is very helpful.

On top of that, is the fact that my normal computer has decided to die and take every single story and half written chapter with it. Which is why you haven't been getting any updates from me lately, because I've been trying and failing to fight the computer company for it. It's not 100% certain yet but I might actually have to take a hiatus for the first time since I actually started writing in here in 2012. A scary thought but my own solo works might have to wait until I can get things more sorted.

THANKFULLY, this one little tidbit was saved on google docs...something I should have gotten into the habit of writing on but because I'm lazy and inconsistent, I didn't. Excuse the smut, it never was my strong point. Even less so when I can't bounce my writing off Rika.

Anyway, solo fics aside, keep your eyes peeled for a new project coming out sometime soon. It's new and different for me writing wise but I think it'll be fun and I hope you guys will like it :)

I'll see you around and as always, love you all

I LOVE THIS!!! somehow, i thought this is like a fantasy fic where kazuya is like an angel or having power (since he can detect jin's problem) or jin is actually a ghost or possessed by one (due to his appearance, skinny and pale). i've weird imagination, i know. it takes me few times to read the summary to assure that this fic is a normal fic. XDD

thank you for the fic and feel sorry for what happened to your computer. I know what it feels like. ><

hiatus? OH NOOO. but i do understand the situation and hope u can sort it of.

btw, i would say, your smut is well written and on point. i love it.

looking forward with your new project!! all the best for your exam!!

lol, well I like going to the weird and wonderful and then I also like going to the normal and mundane but this time I thought I'd keep everyone's feet firmly on the ground.
Next time though...

Hiatus off, I'm back to writing. I don't know how long it'll take but I'll definitely return, hard drive or not.

I'm glad you like the smut, seriously it's not my strong point

I love this! It's just the right touch for a dreary day at work. :D Thanks for writing this!

Sorry about your computer. I've had mine crashed, lost everything, spent a fair bit of time swearing and freaking out, then trying to convince myself that it was not the end of life. :s I hope yours gets recovered!!! ^_^

I'm glad you liked it, really it's always nice to see a comment on a story, no matter how incoherent/long/short/anything. Just confirms that people still read :)

Despite the... unusual? finance business background I really enjoyed this.
It was a lovely piece of AKame.
*both thumbs up*
Jin never fails to amuse me: "Koneko-chan..." :´D
And I appreciate that good ending a lot, I NEEDED something like that.

Arigatou gozaimashita!! ^_^

I've always wondered what it would be like to stick akame in a completely mundane background and to me there's nothing more mundane or shallow than a job completely revolved around money, stock marketing and counting

*shivers* I'd rather be a janitor

Good endings are always something to leave the reader satisfied :)

Aww, this is another good one from you!

Loved the plot, calling Kame neko-chan just reminds me of his drama Yamaneko (which i just got around to watching, I'm late I know, but work life's not fun)

Looking forward to your new project, as always otsukaresama deshita.

This is really cute! ^__^

I was a little bit frustrated with Kame repeatedly making his boundary-setting all about the fact that Jin was married and that having an affair with Jin would make him a homewrecker (100% with Jin on this one -- you can't wreck a home that was already a smoldering husk by the time you got there) -- but I loved it when Kame finally cut through to the real point, which was that he wanted (and deserved) a whole relationship with a whole person. He didn't want to be Jin's secret second life, and he didn't want to have to share Jin with the facade he was maintaining for the world. That's a position I can totally respect, and it made it suck SO MUCH (in a good way) when Jin said he couldn't give up the facade. And it also made their last night together really poignant and sad in a way that's pretty much my personal catnip. With the caveat that it must then be followed by a happy ending. Which it waaaaaas....... ^^

Jin's faily speech at the end was all kinds of adorable (omg, I had my doubts that the board would really expect him to leave his position just because he got divorced, but...after giving a public speech about wanting to rim Kame and being tired of old dudes staring at his wife's boobs, yeah, I think that was probably a done deal... ^__^). And his trolling of Kame about his name (MUSHINANA... <3). And his girly screaming at the horror movie (I hate horror movies, but I would totally sit through one just to watch Jin watch it. entertainment worth the price of admission right there)...

Anyway, this was a really fun read! ^^ And sorry to hear you're still battling the computer demons, that really really sucks. >_____< I hope things work out!

Date: 2016-06-30 04:49 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile]
Strangely enough, the entire time I was writing this I kept disagreeing with Kame's own boundaries about the relationship and how he'd never sleep with a married man but for some reason it just seemed to fit that I write it in there. (Confession: Sometimes I feel I do not control the plot but some hidden section of my head does and I just find out about it when my fingers are typing...)

As for the sex scene just before Jin leaves him and it's because it's the last night - that's my personal catnip too. Poignant scenes like that, where this is happening BECAUSE it's special and there may no be no other chance - truly gets right in the angst >:D

If Jin makes a faily speech this year, let me know :) I've heard things about his MC's (and had the pleasure of seeing one which least 12% faily)
You hate horror movies? I can understand that but seriously, watching Jin scream like a girl all the way through one...we wouldn't even be paying attention to the movie, he'd be all the entertainment we could ever need!! XD

Thank you for reading and commenting! It was lovely meeting you this year and I'm sorry I can't do it again this year but hopefully next year things will be different :)
As for computer, sigh, well these laptops are only meant to last 2 or so years anyway.

These slice-of-lifeish Akame fics are the kind I love the most! Simple plot but full to the brim w/raw, NORMAL human emotions - especially when you're battling with that ever confusing, inexplicable, and totally intoxicating emotion called LOVE. I cannot hold back tears at some point in the story because I can really relate to it, particularly when big boss Akanishi finally admits that the glitz of a cold, material life is nothing compared to the warmth of a pure and honest love. It got me to thinking of real-life Kame again & praying for him (as I always do every single night) that he will remain grounded and always have the love & happiness he deserves despite the intricacies of the Japanese entertainment industry. What your Kame here feels for Jin is like a perfect echo of my wishes for real-life Kame. "Please always be alright, be healthy, and always, always please be genuinely happy, Kamenashi Kazuya."

Thank you from the bottom of my ❤ for this beautiful fic 😘
